We are thrilled to announce that the Audi A6 e-tron Sportback has officially joined our long-term test fleet, arriving in S Line trim and equipped with the larger Performance battery pack. With a headline-grabbing claimed range of up to 460 miles on a single charge, this is one of the most ambitious electric saloons to arrive on the market in recent memory, and we intend to put every one of those miles to the test.
Over the coming months, our team will be living with this car day in and day out — commuting, long-distance touring, and everything in between. We will report back regularly on how the A6 e-tron performs in the real world, where the numbers on a specification sheet must translate into genuine, everyday usability. But before any of that begins in earnest, let us introduce you to the car itself and explain why we are so eager to spend quality time with it.

Built on Volkswagen Group's dedicated PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture — co-developed with Porsche — the A6 e-tron benefits from a purpose-built EV platform rather than an adapted combustion-engine chassis. That distinction matters enormously. It means the car is engineered from the ground up to accommodate large battery packs, optimise aerodynamics, and deliver the kind of driving dynamics that feel natural rather than compromised.
The Sportback body style that we have chosen for our long-term test gives the A6 e-tron a sleek, fastback roofline that is both visually striking and aerodynamically efficient. Audi claims a drag coefficient of just 0.21 Cd for the Sportback variant, which is a key contributor to that impressive 460-mile range figure.
S Line Trim: Sport Meets Substance
Our test car arrives in S Line specification, which adds a meaningful layer of visual aggression and interior premium-ness over the standard trim level. On the outside, the S Line package brings a more pronounced front splitter, side sill extensions, a rear diffuser, and 20-inch alloy wheels with a striking multi-spoke design. The overall effect is a car that looks purposeful and athletic without crossing into ostentatiousness — a balance Audi has always managed with considerable skill.
Step inside and the S Line identity continues with sport seats trimmed in a combination of leather and Alcantara, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and subtle aluminium inlays throughout the cabin. The interior architecture itself is thoroughly modern, centred around Audi's latest MMI touchscreen system paired with a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display that projects essential information onto the windscreen.

The Performance Battery: 460 Miles and the Real-World Question
The headline specification that makes the A6 e-tron Performance stand apart from the entry-level model is, of course, its battery. The Performance variant houses a 100 kWh usable battery pack — a significant step up from the standard 83 kWh option — and it is this larger cell count that supports Audi's bold 460-mile WLTP range claim.
In pure electric vehicle terms, 460 miles is a remarkable figure. It places the A6 e-tron Performance firmly in the conversation with the longest-range EVs currently available, including offerings from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and indeed Tesla. Whether those figures hold up in cold weather, on motorway journeys at sustained speeds, or in heavy urban traffic is precisely what we are here to find out.
Charging capability is equally impressive on paper. The A6 e-tron Performance supports up to 270 kW DC rapid charging, which Audi claims can add approximately 189 miles of range in just ten minutes under ideal conditions. AC charging is supported at up to 22 kW, making overnight top-ups at home or work genuinely convenient.
What to Expect From Our Long-Term Test
Our long-term evaluation will cover a wide range of real-world scenarios designed to stress-test both the car's technology and its usability over time. We will monitor real-world energy consumption across different driving conditions, assess the comfort and practicality of the cabin on longer journeys, and keep a close eye on how the infotainment and driver assistance systems perform day to day.
We are particularly curious about how the A6 e-tron handles the charging infrastructure challenges that remain a reality for many EV drivers across the UK and Europe. The car is equipped with Audi's e-tron Route Planner, which automatically factors in charging stops on longer journeys, but real-world network reliability will be a key part of our assessment.
Beyond the technical, we will also be reporting on the subtler qualities — ride comfort, wind and road noise suppression, the quality of the materials after months of use, and whether the A6 e-tron truly succeeds in carrying the A6 torch into the electric era.
